The Inspiration Behind Channel to Coast

The Inspiration Behind Channel to Coast

Back in 1990, two friends — Lee Robinson and John Duncan — set out to do something bold. On jet skis, they crossed the English Channel and back again, making history and raising funds for Cancer Research. What started as an idea between two ordinary men became an extraordinary adventure, proving that determination, teamwork, and a little courage can make a real difference.

Now, more than three decades later, Lee and John are taking on their biggest challenge yet: circumnavigating the entire coast of Britain by jet ski in 2026. But this journey isn’t just about the thrill of the ride or the scale of the challenge. It’s about people — and the causes that mean the most to them.

Both Alzheimer’s and Multiple Sclerosis have touched their lives personally. They’ve seen the impact these conditions have on families, and they know how vital awareness, support, and funding are in the fight against them. Channel to Coast is their way of giving back, honouring loved ones, and showing that even in the face of immense challenges, it’s possible to make waves for good.

Their inspiration comes from the past — that first daring crossing — but it’s also rooted in the present. This journey is about community, resilience, and hope. It’s about bringing people together across the country to support two causes that affect millions, and about proving once again that adventure can be a powerful force for change.

Channel to Coast is more than just a jet ski challenge. It’s a mission of purpose, inspired by friendship, fuelled by determination, and driven by a desire to help others.
